Qualifying an active material is slow and the slowness is the point. Ask for the full material specification with particle size distribution, moisture limits and trace metal limits, then ask for lot-to-lot data across a real production campaign rather than one golden sample. Ask what change control looks like. Under IATF 16949 a change of material source triggers a fresh PPAP, so a maker that moves a feedstock quietly can push your part approval back to the start.
Chemical compliance sits underneath all of it. Ask for the REACH registration status of the substance as supplied, in the tonnage band you intend to buy. Ask for the safety data sheet in the language your site works in.
Two dates in Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 land directly on this tier. Supply chain due diligence obligations start on 18 August 2027, two years later than first legislated. Recycled content disclosure is due a year later again. Neither obligation can be met without data from the material producer, so ask now what chain-of-custody records already exist and in what format they will arrive.

What is the difference between CAM and pCAM?
Precursor cathode active material (pCAM) is the mixed metal hydroxide or carbonate that goes into the furnace. Cathode active material (CAM) is what comes out after lithiation and calcination and it is what a cell plant actually buys. Both are made in Europe, by different companies in several cases, so check which one a firm produces before you compare prices. The two are not interchangeable.
Who makes battery separator film in Europe?

Separator is bought against a specification covering thickness, porosity, shrinkage plus puncture strength rather than as a commodity.
